I knew a girl her name was Dianne.
She went headfirst through the car's windshield.
Though she survived her life changed from then on.
Scarred for life, she lost her eye.

She dated me before this happened.
We were together, then separate ways.
When I heard I felt for her,
visited daily in the hospital.

Oh, Dianne, you were so beautiful,
your ebony hair and ivory skin.
Got in a car with the wrong boy.
Paid with your eye now your beauty’s within.

Your doctor said ‘plastic surgery’.
Your father said he wouldn’t pay for it.
As long as a boy like me would have you,
he couldn’t see the point of it.

I felt so responsible.
Because of me, you would stay this way.
It was pity I felt for you.
It was pity that made me stay.
